Viya Supports Project Promise With A $23,000 Donation
Viya, the premier telecommunications provider in the US Virgin Islands, and a proud supporter of educational initiatives presented a $23,000 donation to Project Promise on Friday, February 10, 2023, at their new community center in Christiansted, St. Croix. A ceremonial check presentation occurred the following evening at Project Promise’s annual fundraiser, Havana Nights.
Viya’s donation will provide funding for Project Promise’s newest program: Empowered Me. The Empowered Me program is a holistic enrichment program designed to empower St. Croix youth ages 10 to 18 with the tools and attitudes they need to be winners in life.
Participants in the Empowered Me program will attend engaging Saturday classes at their new community center in downtown Christiansted. During each 12-week session, the age-group-specific classes and activities will center around seven programming pillars: Personal Wellness, Financial Literacy, Career Exploration, Creative Expression, Cultural Awareness, Life Skills, and Community Service. While the Empowered Me program will be open to all area youth, 50% of slots are reserved specifically for low to moderate-income families.
Viya’s team will engage with Project Promise participants for the Career Exploration courses. The Career Exploration component will help participants to identify, research, and explore their career/vocational interests. The curriculum will motivate youth to plan for their future and acquire the skills and credentials needed for career success. Participants in this course will be given internship opportunities as well.
